IPA

Description India Pale Ales (IPAs) changed the face of brewing early in the 19th century when they began to be brewed in London and Burton-upon-Trent for both the national and export markets. As IPAs were strong in alcohol and full of hops, they kept better and longer than bitters. Beers with less alcohol and fewer hops were developed for the domestic market, and became known as pale ales. Today, the distinction between bitters and IPAs/pale ales is often blurred, as is the line between IPAs and pale ales. In recent years, some brewers have produced black IPAs (check out Fierce & Noble’s offering at this festival), which is a veritable oxymoron.
